Unlike ballistic and energy weapons, missiles are primarily used in a support role, lacking the magazine capacity for use as a primary weapon (although this can be increased with the Expanded Missile Racks hullmod). Almost all missiles do high explosive damage. Missiles can be targeted and shot down by point defense weapons.
While missiles do not have strict range limits, they have a limited flight time, and will lose guidance once their fuel is exhausted before eventually expiring. It should be noted that once a missile's fuel is exhausted it is capable of damaging friendly ships.
